Loft Apartment Someone’s Will Demo + Bi-Sides

The Finish duo, Loft Apartment have grown on me. The first ten listens were nothing special, then I realized I was listening to the wrong songs. Digging deeper into their Soundcloud offerings, you eventually uncover their live recording “demos,” that are, for lack of a better word, great. Loft Apartment have this Austra/Au Palais vibe that is really infectious. They manage to create these quirky, electronic pop ballads that build and build, almost like a 90s dance jam with really great vocals a la Rhythm Is A Dancer. Keep in mind this was a one shot live recording. I’m impressed. The more I listen, the more I like, and find myself Googling to no end to find more.

Then they turn around and drop these dubby, electronic, chopped up sample-based “Bi-Sides,” with everything from twirling pianos, pulsating house beats, and high energy “pump up the jamz” vibes, just a few days ago. They also covered Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games.” My hunch is they signed to a label and are waiting…and waiting, and starting to get antsy. Sample based recordings help you pass the time I guess. I actually dig the “Bi-Sides,” just not sure I see the connection. Regardless, don’t forget about these guys, I have no doubt there is a lot more of the Austra influenced tunes to come in 2012.
